Our Pledge

Driving while distracted can be more dangerous than driving drunk.

As moms, we want safer roads.

We know the time has come for us all to recognize the risks of distracted driving, to be more responsible and to mind the wheel.

Here is what we pledge:

We pledge to model safe behavior when we drive.

We pledge to set firm house rules on texting and phoning while driving.

We pledge to help spread the word on the dangers of distracted driving.

Here is what we ask for:

We ask for the dangers of distracted driving to be included in drivers’ education classes.

We ask for innovations in technology to help solve the problem.

We ask for laws to make it illegal to text and drive.

We ask for enforcement of existing distracted driving laws and consequences when the laws are broken.

By working together we will make everyone safer.

I'm guilty of texting and driving. I pledge to stop texting and driving and to continue to spread the word of the dangers of distrations while driving. I tell my boys not to answer their phone or text while driving. My 16 was driving thru a parking lot and looked down at his phone when a text was coming thru. He looked down for just a second and hit a cement light pole. Thank goodness he and his brothers were ok. Also that he only hit a light pole and not a person.

I had a lecture for my kids. Teachers need to be setting examples, how can I tell them not to be a distracted driver then they see that?

I pledge! We were rear-ended 2 years ago because a man reached down to answer his cell phone and hit us because he forgot to stop for the light. It sent my Mother in Law to the hospital in an ambulance (lucky, she checked out okay). You won't believe it, but there was cop sitting at the light that we were hit at and saw the WHOLE thing.

They drift in and out of lanes, they go erratic speeds - all the things drunk drivers do and they are JUST as oblivious to it as drunk drivers are!
